The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Social Justice Institute Forum was held at the 28th Annual Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital social action-advocacy conference sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on March 4, 2017 at the Washingt Hilton Hotel, Washington, DC. The topic : The Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls.
DREF announces the 2017-2018 Community Empowerment Grants, Scholarships, and the STJ Internship. Apply Now!
DREF will award Community Empowerment grants to support community-based service programs; and scholarships and an internship to student applicants entering college or continuing their academic programs. The application period will close on March 21, 2017.

DREF Announces the 2016 STJ Summer Intern
The 2016 Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Internship has been awarded to Subria Whitaker, a 2016 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ms. Whitaker majored in communications and most recently held an internship in the District of Columbia Attorney General’s Office. As the 2016 STJ Intern, she is assigned to the office of Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH).

From At-Risk to At-Promise: Changing How We Describe, Teach & Reach Our Children
The ability to obtain a quality education is the great equalizer; a quality education remains the civil rights issue of our generation. While our public school systems are becoming re-segregated and more diverse, many of today’s public school students face steep odds to thriving and achieving in school, especially those schools in underserved and low-income communities. Often, students that are a part of this community are students of color – Latino and African American. Conversely, at an early age, they are often saddled with the label of being “at risk” for academic and social-emotional failure.

PHILLIS: The Journal for Research on African American Women is the peer-reviewed journal of the Delta Research and Educational Foundation. Its editions appear biennially and comprise the highest quality scholarship related to the experiences of African American women. Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign Seeks to Expand Ranks of Education Change Agents

Educators Unite Day Shines Light on Teachers and Community Stakeholders as Change Agents
Washington, DC – March 25, 2015 - The Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC) announced today that Wednesday, May 6, 2015 is “Educators Unite Day.” The one-day, focused initiative serves to heighten community awareness that teachers are change agents, along with parents and other educational stakeholders who motivate students to learn and achieve. The multi-pronged activities are planned to take place in schools and at other community locations during the annual observance of Teacher Appreciation Week scheduled this year May 4 – May 8, 2015.

Washington, DC - The Delta Research and Educational Foundation, in collaboration with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is looking for certified professionals currently teaching students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade in urban school districts to become educational change agents. DREF Seeking Hosts for Town Hall Meetings
Washington, DC – December 15, 2014 - The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) extended the deadline for acceptance of proposals to host the Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC) Town Hall Advocacy Sessions. Proposals from nonprofit organizations interested in serving as local partners and Town Hall Session hosts, must be received by 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2015.
