June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. DREF's toolkit entitled “Raise Your Voice: A Community Guide to Address Gun Violence” is designed for community-based organizations to conduct advocacy, prevention, and education initiatives to decrease gun violence. DREF ANNOUNCEMENT - COVID -19 VIRTUAL OFFICE SCHEDULE

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak crisis, the Delta Research and Educational Foundation will operate in telework mode effective Thursday, March 19, 2020, until further notice. During this period, all staff members will be working remotely and will be available via email and/or telephone between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM (EST), Monday through Friday. In the 2019-20 edition of PHILLIS: The Journal for Research on African American Women, DREF revisits the theme- “The African American Woman and Poverty: The Intersectionality of Economics, Education, and Health.” More than a decade ago, DREF initially addressed the topic: “The Impact of Poverty and Race on African American Women” in its scholarly publication.

DREF Announcement: 2020 Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Internship Postponed

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Stephanie Tubbs Jones (STJ) Summer Internship is postponed. Students who applied for the summer 2020 opportunity will be considered for the summer 2021 STJ internship. DREF sponsors the internship in collaboration with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. The current health crisis precluded students from having the opportunity to experience the traditional eight-week stay in the nation’s capital, where they would be assigned to work in a congressional office.

All are welcome to a "Fundraising Shopping Night To Support The Delta Research and Educational Foundation" (DREF). The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) in partnership with Lord and Taylor will host a private shopping experience on Sunday, February 23, 2020 between 6-8 pm. The evening will include a live jazz band, heavy hor d'oeuvres, a fashion show, and a photo booth. Lord and Taylor will donate a portion of the proceeds to DREF.

The 2019 Stephanie Tubbs Jones (STJ) Summer Intern is Mara Brody, a rising senior at Bethune-Cookman University, located in Daytona Beach, FL. A resident of St. Petersburg, FL, Mara is an international studies major and has a minor concentration in homeland security and political science. She has been assigned to complete the eight-week, congressional summer internship in the Office of Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett (D-VI).
