The Sister Scholars Advisory Council
The Sister Scholars Advisory Council (SSAC) provides information and recommendations regarding the program component and research projects of the Delta Research and Educational Foundation’s Center for Research on African-American Women.
The program component concentrates on the following areas of interest and concerns relating to the lives and well being of African-American women:
- Education
- Economics African
- Health
- International Affairs
- Public and Social Policy
The
research projects address critical subjects and investigate matters as
well as topical issues identified by the SSAC. The Council serves as
the Editorial Review Board of Phillis, The Center’s scholarly journal. The Council also serves as the Selection Committee for the Vivian A. Ware Research Fellowship and provides mentoring to the Ware Fellow.
The
SSAC is comprised of African-American women scholars and professionals
who are authorities on the history, culture, and issues relating to
women of the diaspora. The current members include:

Dr. Elizabeth Clark-Lewis, Professor of History, Howard University
Paula J. Giddings, Professor of Afro American Studies, Smith College
Dr. Beverly Guy Sheftall, Spelman College Dr. Darlene Clark Hine, Chair, African American Studies and Professor of History, Northwestern University
Dr. Cynthia Neverdon-Morton, Professor of History, Coppin Sate University
Deborah Richardson, Chief Program Officer, Women’s Funding Network
Dr. Celeste Watkins-Hayes, Assistant Professor of Sociology and African American Studies, Northwestern University
Also serving on the Sister Scholars Advisory Council are Dr. Alison J. Harmon, President of The Delta Foundation, and members of the Foundation’s Research and Program Planning Committee: Dr. Thelma J. Day and Dr. Deborah C. Thomas.
