The Delta Foundation’s Center for Research on African American Women Establishes Online Repository of Black Women in Politics

The Delta Foundation’s Center for Research on African American Women (The Center) has established an online repository of Black Women in Politics. The information for the online repository is the result of the research conducted by Zinga A. Fraser, who was The Delta Foundation’s 2009-10 Vivian A. Ware Research Fellow. A major condition of the fellowship required Fraser to conduct original research for The Center.
Madeliene H. Dobbins, director and chief administrative officer of The Delta Foundation, explained that researching the topic of Black Women in Politics supports the mission of The Center which is to examine the contributions of African American women to the socio-economic, educational, and cultural well-being of America. Fraser also indicated that The Center’s repository will be a very unique entity because it presents over 330 Black women who have held office on the state and/or national levels since the 1940s to 2010. “No other comprehensive resource of this caliber exists,” added Fraser.
The online repository will debut in early 2011. Fraser is a doctoral candidate in African American Studies at Northwestern University.
