Southern Region Raises Funds for The Center

The Southern Region has raised nearly $14,000 to support The Delta Foundation’s Center for Research on African American Women.

Under the leadership of Christine Nixon, regional director, and Courtney Winn, regional representative, the Southern Region has raised nearly $14,000 to support The Delta Foundation’s Center for Research on African American Women.  The “Give Me Five Campaign” or “The Center – Southern Region” started in the late spring of 2010 with each Delta member in the Southern Region being asked to contribute $5 through their chapter.  The fundraising effort will continue until the 2011 Southern Regional Conference being held in Memphis, TN.

The Southern Regional Director explained that she was motivated to support The Center because it is fulfilling a critical need—documenting and preserving the contributions of African American women in the nation.  If you are a Delta member in the Southern Region, contact your chapter and insure that it is supporting the “Give Me Five Campaign.”

“This type of support is tremendous.  A collective donation of this magnitude has a far reaching impact—it supports one of our major operating components (The Center) and it is not restricted to scholarships or an educational fund, yet educational activities are conducted by The Center,” expressed Madeliene H. Dobbins, director and chief administrator of The Delta Foundation.  The Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has the largest membership total in the organization.
