New Scholarly Publication Debuts: PHILLIS: The Journal for Research on African American Women
The Delta Foundation’s Center for Research on African American Women recently published its new scholarly journal, PHILLIS: The Journal for Research on African American Women.
The PHILLIS Journal debuted at the 22nd Annual Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital held on February 5-8, 2011 in Washington, D.C. The theme of the inaugural issue is “Trauma and the African American Woman,” and serving as the guest editors were Dr. Darlene Clark Hine, noted author and historian of Northwestern University, and Paula J. Giddings, eminent author and professor at Smith College.
The first section of “PHILLIS” features scholarly essays written by African American scholars; the second section features book reviews; and the third section is entitled “VOICES.” In the “VOICES” section women of the African diaspora share personal narratives about traumatic and adverse experiences.
Guest editors Hine and Giddings are members of The Center’s Sister Scholars Advisory Council, which serves as the Editorial Review Board for the Journal. Other members of the Sister Scholars Advisory Council include: Dr. Ramla Bandele of Indiana University-Purdue, Dr. Elizabeth Clark-Lewis of Howard University, Dr. Beverly Guy-Sheftall of Spelman College, Dr. Alison J.
