Foundation President Starts Year with Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter
Dr. Alison J. Harmon, president of The Delta Foundation, was the keynote speaker for the opening breakfast meeting presented by Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority held an event on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The meeting kicked-off the Chapter’s 2011-12 fiscal year. Speaking to gathering of more than 300 Delta members, The Delta president addressed the theme: “On the Move Soaring to New Heights: Impacting and Empowering Our Communities.”
Dr. Harmon congratulated the members of Greater Cleveland Alumnae for impacting the lives of youth in their community and empowering families through their volunteer programs, such as the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and the EMBODI initiative (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities to Develop Independence. She also recognized the establishment of the Greater Cleveland Life Development Foundation Center, commending the chapter and its local foundation on acquiring property.
She also explained that having a local foundation does not preclude local Delta chapters or its member from supporting the Sorority’s national foundation (the Delta Research and Educational Foundation also abbreviated as The Delta Foundation). “We need your ongoing support, you may recall The Delta Foundation awarded a grant to your Foundation in 2009… you are encouraged to support your national foundation so that we can continue operating, continue awarding grants—even awarding larger…we should be able to grow our Delta Foundation to huge proportions, said Dr. Harmon.
