Foundation for the Mid South Awards Grant to Delta Foundation
The Foundation for the Mid South recently awarded the Delta Research and Educational Foundation a $50,000 grant in the fall of 2010 to support several non-profit organizations benefiting from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s IMPACT Day of Service. The grant was presented as challenge funds to match contributions from Delta chapters and their members.

The Sorority held an IMPACT DAY of Service (July 2010) at its 50th National Convention held in New Orleans, where Delta members performed volunteer service and contributed funds to “impact” local communities and organizations that were impacted by Hurricane Katrina. The Foundation for the Mid-South funds were awarded to the following organizations in New Orleans:
1) Roots of Music, provides music education
2) Armstrong Family Services, provides transitional housing and assistance to homeless families
3) The Forest Organization, conducts community action and empowerment programming.
4) Efforts of Grace, provides educational development to youth through arts and cultural programming.
5) Leona Tate Foundation, provides tutoring and preparation for taking standardized test.
6) Desire Street Ministries, provides after school programs for youth
7) Louisiana Oystermen’s Association, provides assistance to fishermen with claims process and contracting opportunities
The Foundation for the Mid-South is a regional foundation whose mission is to invest in people and strategies that build philanthropy and promote racial, social, and economic equity in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
