Foundation Awards First Eula Dean Roby Scholarships

Fall 2011 The Delta Foundation awarded the first Eula Dean Roby Scholarship (EDRS) awards to two female college students who are majoring in education.

The inaugural Roby Scholarship awards were presented by Foundation Board President Alison J. Harmon and EDRS Trustee Jamyce Curtis Banks during the Farwest Regional Conference held in July 2011 in Las Vegas, NV. The scholarships were presented at the Farwest Regional Conference in honor of Eula Dean Roby, a 76-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, who resides in Southern California.
The two scholarship awardees are Maci Craig of New Orleans, LA and Rhaniece Choice of Omaha, NE, who each received $2,000. Craig is a freshman at Tuskegee University and is majoring in elementary education; she is a former participant in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy of New Orleans Alumnae.  Choice is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she is majoring in inclusive elementary education.
Eula Dean Roby, a retired educator, created the scholarship to provide financial assistance to students who major in education and will ultimately pursue a teaching career.  Roby has personally funded the scholarship for the past decade.  The 98-year (old) former physical education teacher is a member of Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
